Linda Rogers
Linda Rogers, a descendent of the British novelist Anthony Trollope,
has published extensively. Her work encompasses poetry, children's
books, and fiction. She is the past President of the Federation of BC
Writers (1990) and The League of Canadian Poets (1997), was the host of Shaw
Cable's TV program about books and writers, Bookshelf, and regularly
contributes reviews for the CBC, and national periodicals, including The
Globe & Mail, Toronto Star, Vancouver Sun, B.C. Bookworld, Focus on
Women and Quill & Quire. Linda Rogers: essays on her work- was by Guernica
Editions, spring 2005. She has edited essay collections on the life and
work of PK Page, Al Purdy, Joe Rosenblatt and bill bissett, and is
completing work on Susan Musgrave, George Fetherling and Carol Shields.
Rogers has a MA in Canadian Literature with W.H.New as her mentor.

Ariel, Veronica, sisters, and Rumer, Ariel's daughter have Cohen's
"Anthem" as their creed. Forget your perfect offering...
How can we protect the fragile and beautiful things? My aim is to
reveal the tender mercies that make life bearable. A family, if it is woven
like the strands of hair in the locket given to Rumer to celebrate her
menarche, can withstand grief
On this Friday in April when a psychic predicted snow, three women
stand on thresholds contaminated by a shooting in the park near their
house. Ariel, a dancer afflicted by anorexia and breast cancer, overcomes
her fear of darkness and ventures into the shadows. Veronica, her sister,
an actress, whose life and work are based on fiction, risks the light.
Rumer, Ariel's thirteen-year-old daughter, who misses an assassin's
bullet on the way to her violin lesson, steps into womanhood. Parallel to
the ruin and beauty of their lives is Cuba, where Ariel's husband is in
prison for the crime of misinterpreting his mandate as a
photojournalist. Friday Water is the medium of redemption as the sisters confess,
forgive and celebrate the daily miracles in the ordinary lives of an
extraordinary family.
